If you purchase more than 1 of the same product, you may receive a discounted rate. This can be applied in Prestashop to give customers a discount when purchasing bulk quantities of your product. Some stores offer a quantity discount when you purchase more than one of the same item. In Prestashop, this can be applied to give customers a reduced price for purchasing more than one of your products.

What is quantity discount pricing?

Quantity discount pricing is a common strategy used by retailers to increase sales volume. It's a cart rule that involves offering discounts on products or services if the customer purchases a certain quantity of that product or service.

There are many ways in which retailers can go about this. Buyers can get discounts depending on how many items they purchase.

Retailers can also choose to give prices based on the total price, as well as the discount amount.

How to add quantity discounts in PrestaShop?

Visit your PrestaShop Back Office, then access the "My Promotions" menu from the left of the admin panel page.

On the listing of a promotions page, click on the "Create a new promotion" button to create your first volume discount promotion.

On the Product Criteria tab, you choose to set a minimum order value, or a minimum quantity of product, to be able to enjoy the discount.

When should a quantity discount be offered?

The quality of the product that will be offered for sale has an impact on what type of discount should be given. A discount of $10 off a $100 purchase would be considered more beneficial than a discount on products that are already cheaper than what they were before.

Let's say you are selling 10 products at $10 each, but they already have a 20% off for a specific price, there is no need to apply the promotion for the customer who buys 1-2 items. But if the customer purchases three other items (total order value = $50) from another category that is not applied to any cart rule, then it is worth offering an offer.

You will know that there are some products where this promotion type should not be applied. Many eCommerce stores cannot offer discount pricing on certain types of products, such as apparel or shoes. This is because these items often come in very small quantities, and it would be difficult for the retailer to find them. Therefore, it is not worth the extra cost to do so and shouldn't use this tactic on the whole website by default.

The discount price should be based on the product quantity or the order value. If they purchase more than required, then the discount should be larger.

This is a good example of a price-range discounting strategy: 15% off for orders over $100, 20% off for orders over $500, 30% off for orders over $1000.
